Faith

All West Michigan Christian Schools share One Teacher. Christ says in John 13:13, “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.”  At Western Michigan Christian, everything we do is from the perspective of a Christ-centered worldview. We not only ask the question, “What would Jesus do?”,  we show our students what Jesus says as it relates to the classroom, the athletic field and the community we serve. Not only do we integrate faith and learning, we make spiritual development an important part of our what we do. Below are some examples of our faith in action.

CHAPEL

Worship in the Big Room Each Tuesday all WMC students, faculty and staff gather to worship in the Big Room. Chapel services consist of a time for praise songs and a devotional message. Students have heard messages from different pastors and ministry leaders from the community. MS and HS worship separately except for 3 times a year when the whole school worships together.

SERVICE LEARNING

Each student is required to perform community service. Middle School students serve on a small group project basis, while High School students serve individually performing 10 hours in 9th and 10th grade, 15 in 11th and a 20-hour Capstone Project as a Senior. High School students must complete service hour sheets and turn them in for their graduation requirement. In any given year, our students have been known to serve more 4,000 hours in an around the community and around the world, and raise over $20,000 for local families in need.

WMC service learning aligns with our mission statement to educate with excellence, integrate faith with knowledge, equip students to work and serve Christ in their communities.

Project Serve

WMC students begin each school year by serving others. With Project Serve, the high school students spend the afternoon serving the community at 17 different non-profit organizations along the lakeshore including the Tri-Cities YMCA, International Aid, Love in Action Grand Haven, LOVE In The Name of Christ Muskegon, Hope’s Outlet and Kids’ Food Basket.

Project Grace

Project Grace is one of our biggest fundraisers and acts of compassion at our schools. Each year during the Christmas season, WMC raises money to support local families in need, with food clothing and gifts. As a school, we want to grow in what it means to be a servant.

MENTOR/DISCIPLE PROGRAM

Training Student to Train Other

One of our goals at WMC will be to instill in our community a culture of multiplication. We do this by training students, to train others, who will then train others (2 Timothy 2:2). The vision is that in our small groups, we will have empowered students who lead and train their small groups. Then, those students in their small groups will be encouraged to reach out to their family, friends, and neighbors to train them in the same way! If we desire to see Jesus glorified, then we will surely desire to see his people multiplied!

Small Groups

All WMC students participate in small groups in order to develop a sense of community and oneness in Christ. It also allows students the opportunity to get to know and worship with other students in different grades.  Small groups meet every Thursday during chapel time.

Why Small Groups?

  • Small groups help us to build relationships while emphasizing the importance of community.  Through community small groups help us to learn more about God and to learn more about ourselves through relationships with others. Small groups build and strengthen fellowship with each other.
  • God teaches us about the importance of relationships. In Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus says that the greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all of your mind… and that the second greatest commandment is to Love your neighbor as yourself.”

God blesses us through our relationships with others!
