8th Grade Girls Advisory Group Service Project: Kids Belong Foster Care Share Closet

Mrs. Newsted‘s 8th grade girls advisory group went to Kids Belong’s Foster Care Share Closet, located in Fellowship Reformed Church, Muskegon. (Kids Belong is a network that supports foster, adoption, and kinship families with supplies but also provides counseling and other services).

The girls spent their time sorting kids’ clothing and hanging them for easy access for those in need. There were lots of “ooohs” and “aahs” over cute baby clothes and even some teen clothing. Some students spent time organizing the racks of clothes as well.

They also learned a lot about the program as they saw a movie room with snacks for the kids to relax while moms shop (all items are free), shoes, toys, baby needs/diapers, coats/hats, etc. There were also humbling moments seeing donated clothing that was stained or finding only a single shoe.

It was a day of laughing. community building, and learning.
