WMC Names New Varsity Girls Soccer Coach

Western Michigan Christian High School is pleased to name Jared McFarland as Girls Varsity Soccer Head Coach. WMC Athletic Director Ryan Slack is excited to build on a successful season, “Coach McFarland will make a smooth transition in our program as he was our Girls Varsity assistant coach last year and was a key part of the success we had as a conference champion with such a young team. He knows our players and will come in with knowledge of our program and a plan to move forward.”

McFarland takes the head coaching post after assisting Coach Debbie Pekel last year, serving as Assistant Head coach at Muskegon Catholic Central for 2 years, coaching the Grand Haven Admirals 1 year, and currently serving as a Volunteer Coach at Muskegon Community College and 8 years as coach of West Michigan Storm Premier for 8 years.

Coach McFarland is pleased to be able to build on last year’s success and to work with the team to learn, grow and improve. He says his coaching philosophy is simple  “You don’t know what you don’t know” and “if you have knowledge you need to pass it on to those who do not have it.” “It’s my goal as the coach of young student athletes to provide an environment that allows growth and learning in a fun and positive environment. I want that environment to allow the growth of future leaders, that if they’ve got the knowledge to pass it on. The end goal is to mold individuals to communicate, be responsible, be problem solvers, and to be mentally tough.”

Jared McFarland sees a bright future for Warrior soccer. “I look forward, not only to the development of each individual player, but the development of the team, how they grow and bond as one team. I also look forward to building upon the success the team had in the spring of 2022; and hopefully add to the storied history of WMC soccer.”

Coach McFarland resides in Muskegon with his wife Onica and 2 sons Dempsey and Beckham. He enjoys U of M athletics, traveling, food, spending time with his family and, oh yes, soccer.
