College Board announced that Western Michigan Christian High School and Middle School (WMC) has been named to the Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning GOLD distinction. The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
WMC had 74% of seniors who took at least one AP exam during high school and 82% of seniors scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam. WMC offers seven AP courses that include AP Language, AP Literature, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Government, AP U.S. History, AP Statistics, and AP Calculus, AP Spanish and has six teachers teaching AP courses.

In the last 3 years we have really been focusing on curriculum development through our late starts, our K-12 alignment, and the progress that we’ve made is now showing in our test scores. A huge thank you goes out to our teachers who work tirelessly to ensure that each and every student in our building is being educated with excellence. This includes our partner schools Fremont Christian, Grand Haven Christian and Muskegon Christian schools.”
“AP represents an opportunity for students to stand out to colleges, earn college credit and placement, and potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools have shown that they can expand access to these college-level courses and still drive high performance – they represent the best of our AP program.”
WMC was further recognized with the AP Access Award, which honors schools that encourage more low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses. The percentage of students in at least one of these categories who took at least one AP Exam before graduation is proportional to or above the school’s student population, demonstrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework.
