7th Grade Girls Advisory Group Service Project: Operation Christmas Child

From the Operation Christmas Child Website: Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world and, together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 146 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 160 countries and territories. Many shoebox recipients are also invited to participate in The Greatest Journey, a follow-up discipleship course where they learn to know, grow in, and share Jesus Christ. Through 12 exciting lessons, the boys and girls often become young evangelists who tell their friends and family all they are learning. These people, in turn, spread this news to still others. This dynamic process of evangelism and discipleship is multiplying churches even to the ends of the earth!

First Baptist Church of Spring Lake held their annual packing party for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes on Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4.  Mrs. Dyksta’s 7th grade advisory group baked hundreds of cookies to donate for the packing party. They delivered these cookies on Friday, Nov. 3 at the start of the service opportunity. In addition to baking cookies, they also packed numerous shoeboxes for children ages 2-4, 5-9, and 10-14 year olds from 11:30am-2:30pm!  Each 7th grader was able to pack these boxes full of quality toys, school supplies, and personal care items. They prayed for the individual child that they packed the box for as well as included a prayer in each box too. For many children, this shoebox is their first gift ever! These shoebox gifts provide an opportunity for WMC 7th graders to present the Gospel to boys and girls in a clear, child-friendly way.  Many students went back on Saturday to continue packing boxes for children across the world to share the love of Jesus with these kids!
