Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed
I can’t believe that 1st trimester is already done and exams have come and gone. The counseling office is bustling with seniors applying to college and looking at post-secondary options. That post-secondary decision is a big one, and the seniors are feeling this pressure. As parents you are able to help this process by starting conversations early. Even as 7th graders, students can begin pursuing their interests and talking about what they might want to do. We will also be doing this at WMC. We want to start conversations early and help our students see the importance of all their years at WMC, 7th-12th grade.
The counseling office has also been working on new and upcoming programs to benefit our students. Our counseling group has been launched and there will be others to follow. We want to support our students in all areas; this includes social/emotional, career development and academic development. Please let us know if your student is struggling so that we can come alongside them and encourage them in their journey. Thank you for the opportunity to work with each of your children!
Things you might not know about…Anxiety
- 6.3 Million teens in the U.S. ages 13-18 struggle with an anxiety disorder.
- 3 million adolescents in the U.S. have experience at least one major depressive episodes in the past year.
So what can you do?
- Talk about the real stuff
- Pay attention, but don’t smother them
- Resist getting angry
- Don’t put off getting help
- Treat the whole family
Class of 2018
This year’s seniors have been busy looking to the future, whether that be applying to colleges or making plans to begin working following graduation. Whenever a senior is accepted to a college they will be featured on the WMC Counseling Instagram page to recognize their accomplishments. We want each of seniors to know how proud of them we are and want to encourage them as they make plans for the future.
